Michael considers himself a short-tracker first, but he is also a SCCA licensed road racer.  In the past few years, he has raced in a Spec Miata at Sebring, Daytona and Moroso.
It is a long process to get a SCCA license.  It requires two weekends of driving schools.  Here Michael is competing in a race that marks the end of school at Moroso Motorsports Park.  He is driving the #43 owned by family friend, and fellow mini-stock racer, Tom Rose.
How many short-trackers do you know that have raced at Daytona?  Here is Michael driving Tom's car on the high banked circuit used for the Rolex 24.
Michael is assisted by his dad, and crew chief, Terry.  Here he is getting suited up in the famous Daytona garage area.
SCCA club racing often takes place over two days, with practice, qualifying and racing on each day.  Here Michael works through the infield section of Daytona.
SCCA's Spec Miata class is a success by any standard.  The field typically consists of 40-60 cars.  In this race in August 2005, Michael leads a very quick vintage Corvair.
Tom "Pineknot" Rose suits up to drive his Miata at Sebring.
If you think road racing is for aristrocratic gentlemen, think again.  It is intense, competitive and lots of fun.  This was shot on Sebring's long course in 2005.
Here is the old circle track Pinto in action at Sebring, November 2007.
